Gerrit Dou was one of the most successful painters of the Dutch Golden Age. He started out as a student of Rembrandt, and eventually started his own school of painting in Leiden. In this video I will tell you about one of the masterpieces from his early career. The subject seems so humble, An elderly lady reading the Bible. But you will see there is quite a lot to see in this seemingly simple painting.
