Description:
This week we look at one of Rembrandt’s paintings of ‘The Supper at Emmaus’. It’s often regarded as perhaps Rembrandt’s most accomplished and characteristic treatment of the Emmaus story, when Christ was recognised by the apostles in the ‘breaking of bread’. It’s a deeply spiritual painting that directs our attention to the serenity and peace of the Eucharist and challenges the viewer to pause and contemplate the person of Christ.
